Schizandra Berry (Schizandra chinesis) has been used for centuries in China to preserve beauty and maintain youth, for both men and women and it also believed to be a sexual enhancer. It has been cherished as an anti-aging tonic that is believed to increase stamina and mental clarity, as well as fight fatique and stress. It has a strong reputation as one of the most effective treatments for liver disorders. Believed to support the kidneys and has been recommended by herbalists for the treatment of frequent urination, excessive perspiration and persistent thirst. Research has suggested that Schizandra Berry liquid extracts can increase the effectiveness of immunosuppressive drugs given to help avoid rejection after kidney transplants. Schizandra may be beneficial for conditions such as sweating, asthma, coughs, diarrhea, indigestion, influenza liver disease and premenstrual syndrome. 

It is believed to play a role in balancing the energy exchange among the lungs, liver, spleen, heart and kidneys. Schizandra is considered an adaptogen that can normalize body functions, helping the body adapt and return to an overall sense of well-being and increasing the body's resistance to disease and stress. It is also said to help to energize RNA and DNA molecules to rebuild cells. The biochemical make-up of Schizandra Berry may offer cells protection against internal and external toxins.
Schizandra or Schisandra berry contains antioxidant vitamins C and E. Because of the lignans in the berries, the antioxidants and phytoestrogens, it may have a proactive effect, helping to protect against halothane-induced (a general anesthetic) hepatitis. Further supporting its use as a liver-protective effects, a constituent of Schizandra extract, Gomison-A helps to prevent liver inflammation and tissue destruction, without compromising the immune system's ability to fight the underlying infection. It is considered a cholagogue, and is said to protect against the progression of cirrhosis into liver cancer and also protect the liver from chemical damage, particularly damage from chemicals that have to be activated by the liver to become poisonous, such as carbon tetrachloride. This also helps to stimulate the growth of healthy liver tissue and may hasten the recovery after liver surgery. 
Studies have demonstrated its ability to make the enzyme, glutathione peroxidase, which deactivates several kinds of toxic free radicals that attack the outer membranes of the liver cells. This substance is believed to offset damage done by the liver by chronic viral hepatitis, alcohol, HIV and AIDS. 
According to a human in vitro study that was published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine, Schizandra inhibits cancer cell growth for cancers such as leukemia. And because of the high levels of antioxidants, it was shown in animal studies that andriamycin-induced cardiotoxicity, or heart muscle damage caused by anti-cancer chemical (chemo) therapy, can be improved with the use of Schizandra extract.
Schizandra is considered to be a mild sedative that exerts a soothing effect on the body. It has been found to be helpful in cases of insomnia, irritability, dizziness, stress and physical exhaustion, as well as improving stamina and physical performance that increases the body's ability to work. Schizandra tincture raises your body's amount of the enzyme, glutathione, which detoxifies you and in turn, improves your mental clarity, concentration and counters forgetfulness or memory loss and can potentially increase the body's ability to adapt to varied stimuli. According to Mayo Clinic reported that adrenal fatique or adrenal insufficiency is caused by chronic stress. Some of the signs of adrenal insufficiency include fatigue, body aches, unexplained weight loss, low blood pressure, lightheadedness and loss of body hair. Other signs of adrenal fatigue can include anxiety, depression and insomnia. By supporting the adrenals and hormone balance within the body, it is also helpful for premenstrual syndrome or PMS. Ingredients: Schizandra Berries and Certified Grain Alcohol. No Water Added.
Instructions: 1 dropperful—1 ml—1/4 teaspoon • Dropper from a two-ounce bottle—40 drops

The Schizandra tincture is also a 1:1 ratio 30 drops taken once or twice per day is a good dosage, Use in water or juice, under the tongue or as desired. Shake well. Store in a cool dark place. Keep out of reach of children. 

Contraindications: Pregnant or nursing women should not use Schizandra (it is a uterine stimulant). People who have gallstones or blockages of the bile ducts and those with peptic ulcers, epilepsy or high blood pressure should also avoid Schizandra Berry extract. When overdosed there have been reported side effects, such as insomnia, chest pain and gastrointestinal effects.
