Medicinal Uses - Eleuthero was traditionally used to treat and help prevent cold and flu and to increase energy, longevity and vitality. Research has shown that healthy people who took the herb for 4 weeks had a higher T-cell count, which indicates strengthening of their immune system. One study found that the herb helps to treat the herpes simplex virus, making it a beneficial treatment for cold sores as well as genital herpes. It reduced the number of outbreaks. Outbreaks that did occur were less severe and didn't last as long. Eleuthero is also used to improve mental performance. According to one study, middle-aged volunteers who took the herb improved their memory compared to those who took placebo.
