Dandelion Leaf Herbal Tincture

Dandelion leaf is potassium-rich and has been used for overall good health and offers a number of benefits for the gallbladder and liver. Both the leaves and the roots are considered to be a natural diuretic and help to remove excess water and toxins from the body. Dandelion Root and Leaves are known for keeping the internal organs clean and clear. The herbal extract has been used for conditions such as poor digestion, liver disorders, high blood pressure, acid indigestion and gas build-up, and it helps to relieve both constipation and diarrhea. Herbalists regard Dandelion as one of the best herbs for building the blood, relieving anemic conditions and helping to maintain normal blood sugar levels. It is considered to be one of the better herbs to treat kidney ailments, such as kidney stones, and it is also thought to improve gall bladder function, possibly even preventing gallstones. Dandelion leaf is good for female organs and has also been used to enrich breast milk in nursing mothers. Women suffering from premenstrual syndrome may find that the diuretic action is powerful and may relieve some of the symptoms. Dandelion is helpful for those who suffer with eczema and other skin conditions, asthma, arthritis, gout, rheumatism, low blood pressure, bone disorders, ulcers, halitosis (bad breath), malignant tumors and swollen glands. It is one of the most common, safe and effective herbs available for men, women, children and animals.

Dandelions are nature's third richest source of beta-carotene, from which vitamin A is created. They are also particularly rich in fiber, potassium, iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and the B vitamins, thiamine and riboflavin, and are a good source of protein. It is also rich in micronutrients such as copper, zinc, boron, molybdenum, as well as vitamin D. Most of what Dandelion leaf does for promoting good health could be a result from the nutritional richness alone. Because of the vitamins A and C, is also known as an antioxidant and anti-cancer agent and is an important herb in fighting the growth of breast and stopping the spread of prostate cancer and cancer of the epithelial tissue, including the mouth and lungs.

Dandelion is often recommended as an adjuvant in all diseases that involve glandular disequilibrium. Because of its qualities, herbalists and specialists alike are using it to treat liver diseases. It works by increasing the bile secretion, regulates the blood circulation and stimulates the appetite in convalescing individuals. Because of its diuretic properties it eliminates toxins efficiently which indirectly helps with eczemas and other skin disease such as hepatic dermatosis, gout, rheumatism, atherosclerosis and varices.

Dandelion is considered a fine liver tonic that is also said to promote healthy gallbladder, pancreas and spleen function. Herbalists use Dandelion to strengthen the liver and treat liver disorders. The herb is thought to ease conditions such  as hepatitis, inflammation of the liver, jaundice and liver enlargement. It is said to be helpful when used in the first stages of cirrhosis of the liver.

Dandelion Leaf is a superior and powerful diuretic. It is even thought to be more effective than other natural or synthetic products where large amounts of potassium are lost in the urine and too often flushed from the body. Research suggests that dandelion may improve the health and function of natural bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. Through its action both on the liver and kidneys (The French named it, pis en lit, "wet the bed" which indicates its action), it gently eliminates toxic wastes from the body.

Dandelion Leaf's powerful blood purifying and liver cleansing properties help to clear minor skin problems as well, especially acne. A liver that is not performing at its best can worsen acne, because it cannot break down and clear excess hormones from the body. Dandelion’s inulin content also helps to improve the quality of skin by removing bacteria.

For constipation, Dandelion Leaf is considered a mild laxative that stimulates the bowel and is also said to ease the discomforts caused by inflammation of the bowel.  It has been used to promote good digestion by invigorating the functions of the digestive organs and stimulating the circulation of blood to the entire body. This herb tonic is used for problems in the digestive organs and is said to relieve acute stomachaches. Dandelion leaf has been used successfully in cases of hypoacid gastritis, dyspepsia, biliary dischinesis and for preventing and eliminating renal calculi.

Dandelion has the potential to normalize blood sugar levels and lower bad cholesterol (LDL), while increasing good cholesterol (HDL). Dandelion is said to help promote healthy heart function. The potassium works with sodium to regulate the body's water balance and normalize heart rhythms. Dandelion may lower high blood pressure due to its diuretic action in ridding the body of excess fluid, thereby reducing the amount of fluid the heart must pump to circulate blood. Dandelion contains two flavonoid glycosides, apigenin and luteolin, which have demonstrated to have anti-spasmodic, anti-oxidant and liver protecting actions and properties, which also strengthen the heart and blood vessels.

Dandelion is great for female organs. It also enriches breast milk in nursing mothers and this benefits both mother and child. It is believed to be good for mothers before, during and after pregnancy. Those who suffer with premenstrual syndrome may find that Dandelion leaf extract's diuretic action helps to relieve some of the symptoms.

For treating nagging, toxic conditions, including gout, joint inflammations, chronic arthritis, chronic rheumatism, swelling and stiff joints, Dandelion is said to be the ideal supplement because it flushes toxins from the system, rids the body of excess water and salt and reduces uric acid. The leaf of Dandelion may help reduce stiffness and increase mobility in situations of chronic degenerative joint disease. The inulin content in Dandelion is thought to be an “immuno-stimulant,” boosting the function of the immune system and stimulating macrophage action to surround and digest invasive infection and serious malignant disease. Dandelion may be helpful in cases of osteoporosis. It is a rich source of boron, which is thought to raise estrogen levels in the blood, thus helping to preserve bone. The herb is also a rich source of calcium and silicon, both of which are also believed to strengthen bone.

Dandelion is an excellent source of lecithin, a nutrient that elevates the brain's acetylcholine. As a result, it may retard or stop regression of mental ability caused by Alzheimer's disease.

  1. Helpful for my dog and I use it too! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 20th Feb 2023

I bought this as a complementary treatment for my dog with dilated cardiomyopathy (an enlarged heart and use it in place of a pharmaceutical diuretic for one of his two doses per day. It makes me feel better to give him something that has other benefits to his liver and it works to keep his symptoms in check most of the time. If he coughs at all, we simply go back to the drug 2x a day for a few days to a week. I also use this occasionally when I feel I have overindulged and need a little detox.
