Giving birth to a baby is tough work, no matter how the little one decides to enter the world. Having had a c-section and natural births, I can say that while natural birth can be harder pre-birth, c-sections can be much harder in recovery.
At the same time, there are some things you can do before and after a c-section to help with the recovery process. These are things I wish I’d known and been able to do when my daughter had her c-section that have helped many others since then. I’ve had many customers try many of these things while recovering from natural birth as well, and they were really helpful.
This herbal tea contains the following:
Chamomile - The flowers of chamomile contain volatile oils which possess anti-inflammatory properties. Being anxious and stressed are common after surgery. The calming effects of chamomile will help with this as well as a sleep inducer and relaxant.
Milk Thistle seed acts as a potent antioxidant that also increases levels of glutathione which is a detoxifying substance. Because of these properties this herb aids and protects the liver in recovering from the toxic damage caused by general anesthetics and other drugs.
Calendula flowers helps avoid vaginal infections, a common side effect of this surgery.
Nettle leaf increases breast milk and helps replace blood loss.
Oatstraw improves sleep and strengthens the nervous system.
Raspberry leaf - tones uterus and gets it back to normal.
Red clover improves breast milk production and brings hormonal sanity.
Linden leaf and flowers soothes and heals mucus surfaces and incisions.
All of these herbs are good for c-section recovery and also help with milk production.
If you are also having trouble producing breast milk I would recommend adding some fenugreek seeds.
If you are having any postpartum depression I would add a little motherwort.
Brewing instructions: Boil water and steep for 3-5 minutes.
Note: Due to the Red Clover, it is not suitable for those on blood-thinning medications.
