Product Description

Kitty Balm Scarlet aka Tiger Balm® Red

This BY FAR has to be the BEST herbal product I have ever made. I can't begin to tell you how invaluable I find Tiger Balm® to be after working hours in my herbal gardens. I was so excited to do this until I realized there wasn't an authentic recipe that had all the right ingredients. Man, I thought it would be easy to find a basic recipe to follow. I tried some that are posted on the internet and all of them didn’t satisfy me in the least. Obviously that didn't stop me! I remember years back when my dad use to teach karate and recommended that his students (me included) use Tiger Balm® after sparing practice. I asked my dad and he recommended that I contact an old karate school and inquired about what WAS out there as a guideline so I could make my own balm. I figured this would take maybe an hour or so... Famous last words. Nope, it took several tries and a couple of days until I was satisfied with my batch, I finally have a recipe and story of why I came about making it to share!

Now, the commercial Tiger Balm® you buy on-online or in stores is made with petroleum jelly and paraffin wax to which several special essential oils are added.  Different formulations of Tiger Balm® have the following essential oils: Cassia, Cajeput, Clove bud and Demertholized mint oil.

Kitty Balm Scarlet aka Tiger Balm® Red is commonly used for temporary relief of minor aches and pains of muscles and joints associated with simple backache, arthritis, bruises, strains and sprains.

I have formulated two types of balm. The first balm I eliminated the petroleum jelly and menthol , added cocoa butter and coconut oil and used the same essential oils used in Tiger Balm® HR and added lemon eucalyptus and peppermint oil.  I used coconut oil as my base because of its many healing effects and pleasant odor, cocoa butter for its moisturizing and healing properties, and of course beeswax for my hardener.  In my other formula I used a little petroleum, menthol crystals, eliminated the lemon eucalyptus and  peppermint then added a bit more cassia oil to give it a little more heat.

To sum up my balm In word...AWESOME! I hope this works as well for others as it has for me. It was totally worth the time and fun, I mean work it took to make it happen. I hope you are able to enjoy it too! Please let me know how this turns out for you!!

Ingredients in Kitty Balm Scarlet: Essential Oils of Camphor, Cajuput, Clove bud, Cassia, Coconut Oil, Cocoa butter, Menthol Crystals, Petroleum jelly and beeswax.

Here's a little history of the original Tiger Balm®. The name Tiger Balm® comes from the fact that the ointment originally contained tiger bone, a famous ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine dating back 1,500 years that was used to treat pain and inflammation. However today Tiger Balm® consists entirely of herbal ingredients! It was developed during the 1870s in Rangoon, Burma, by herbalist Aw Chu Kin, son of a Hakka herbalist in China, Aw Leng Fan. His father had sent him to Rangoon in the 1860s to help in his uncle's herbal shop. Eventually, Aw Chu Kin himself set up a family business named Eng Aun Tong meaning "Hall of Everlasting Peace". On his deathbed in 1908, he asked his sons Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par to perfect the product. By the 1920s, the sons had made it a very successful business empire in Burma with its runaway success, the Tiger Balm medicinal ointment.

Named after Aw Boon Haw whose name means "Gentle Tiger", Tiger Balm® is an herbal formulation for external pain relief. Tiger Balm is available in several varieties, the "cold" Tiger Balm® White (recommended for use with headaches) and the "hot" Tiger Balm® Red. The strongest version is called Tiger Balm Ultra.

Use it afterward physical activity to provide relief to your sore muscle strains, backaches, and other muscle aches and pains that can come from overworking your muscles.

  6. Great Balm 5 Star Review

I purchased this to try it out since I read that a Karate Instructor was using it. This balm is fantastic! The smell is not as strong as the commercial brand but I like the smell much better and its not as greasy as tiger balm. It heats up when you rub it into your skin and it really helps to loosen the tension and relieve pain.
Would highly recommend using this product!

  7. better than the commercial Tiger Balm 5 Star Review

I have fibromyalgia, and I am allergic to NSAIDS, and that is what is used to treat it besides muscle relaxers, so I am in pain a lot. This helps me to function whereas BenGay and other arthritic ointments do not touch my pain. I also find this better than the commercial Tiger Balm, this must have additional oils added to relieve the aches and pains. There is a pleasant odor with using it, and I like the smell of clove oil so it doesn't bother me. Better than BenGay or similar products. My husband had back surgery 2 years ago and finds this to work the best for his residual chronic pain as well. Great as a chest rub for colds and sinus issues, too!

  10. FANTASTIC PRODUCT! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Sep 2015

I'm a Karate Instructor and I ordered this for my new students. Ordering 25 1 ounce bottles at a time and the customer service is great. This balm goes on easy and does the job for sore muscles and alleviates the pain with the heat of the Camphor and Cajuput. Compared to the expensive Tiger Balm, this product is the same and is much more reasonable.

Will be purchasing every 3 months and a VERY Satisfied customer.
