Overview - Echinacea is a hardy perennial that is indigenous to Canada and the United States and organically grown, right here on our ranch. Roots are harvested after their 3rd year and sun dried. We water our crops with fresh water from our private well where the water comes from the glaciers of Mt.Rainier and run through our back yard in the NisquallyRiver.

Parts Used - The root, leaves, stems and flowers.

Preparations - The above-ground parts of the plant are used to make fresh juice, infusions (warm-water teas), and tinctures. The roots are used in either cut or powdered form for capsules, fluid extracts, teas, and tinctures.

  • Decoction: use 1 tsp. root with 1 cup boiling water. Steep for 1/2 hour. Take 1 tbsp. 3 to 6 times a day.
  • Tincture: take 6 to 12 drops in water 3 times a day.
  • Strep throat needs to be treated with a gargle, snakebite is treated by chewing the leaves and roots by the patient and applying to pulp to the snakebite area after the venom is sucked out and it is bleeding freely. The most common compound seems to be a combination with Myrrh to make a tincture. In severe cases, 10 to 25 drops (gtts) of the tincture every 2 hours in water.
