Product Description

Aloe Vera Leaf (Extract) Powder

Certified Organic - South Africa

Also Known As - Aloe ferox

Overview -  "I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon" (Proverbs 7:17). For more than 3,500 years, healers and physicians have touted the benefits of this fragrant desert lily. There are about 200 species of aloe, but aloe vera, meaning (true aloe) in Latin, is considered the most effective healer. The leaf of the aloe contains a special gel or emollient that is used extensively in cosmetics and skin creams. Aloe gel is regarded as one of nature's best natural moisturizers. The juice is bitter and extracted for medicinal use.

  • Queen Cleopatra regarded the gel as a fountain off youth and used it to preserve her skin against the ravages of the Egyptian sun. The Egyptians were also believed to have used the aloe plant in their embalming process.

Medicinal Uses - As is the case with many medicinal plants, the function depends on the form in which the plant is delivered. Aloe vera products are made from the juice, the gel, the whole leaf and come in tablets, capsules, juices, gels, topical ointments, lotions, and all of these various parts are used in over hundreds of topical body care products. Aloe gel and juice are considered demulcent, and have soothing properties for the skin. Aloe also contains a group of plant chemicals called Anthraquinones. These are known to aid in the elimination process. A group of plant chemicals called Polysaccharides is also present in Aloe although only found in preparations using the Whole Leaf, since these immune supporting chemicals are not found in the inner gel or juice, but in the "skin" or outer parts of the plant. In summary, Aloe encourages intestinal activity, support the body's natural elimination processes, and soothes the intestinal tract, mucous membranes and skin

Active Constituents - amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignans, monosaccharide, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, sapponins, and sterols

Parts Used - The whole leaf.

Preparations and Dosages - When using the plant topically, break or cut off the leaf at the base and the gel will ooze out. This leaf can be kept in the refrigerator for several weeks. Use the gel topically on any skin irritation except staph bacteria, which will instead encourage growth. The Aloe is a dried latex taken from the “peel” of the leaves, more precisely the double wall of the leafs water sacs. When the aloe is first extracted from the leaf, it is yellow, but it turns brown as it dries. The type of Aloe Vera sold by Maus’ Mountain Remedies is made from the entire dehydrated leaf then powdered.

  • Powder: a dose is from 1-5 grains.
  • Juice or gel: taken internally, take 1 tbsp., up to 3 times daily.
  • Fluid extract: a dose is from 5-30 drops.
  • Wash: dissolve 1/2 tsp. aloes in 1 cup water. If desired, add 1 tsp. boric acid as a preservative and to help in healing.

Precautions - Regarding products for bowel regulation containing Aloe: Do not use if you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools, or abdominal pain because Cape Aloe may worsen these conditions and be harmful to your health.
