Product Description

Kelp Powder

Also Known As – Laminaria digitata or Oarweed

Wild Crafted - Atlantic

Overview -L. digitata is a tough, leathery, dark brown seaweed that grows to two or three metres. The holdfast which anchors it to the rock is conical and has a number of spreading root-like protrusions called rhizoids. The stipe or stalk is flexible and oval in cross section. The blade is large and shaped like the palm of a hand with a number of more or less regular finger-like segments. This seaweed can be distinguished from the rather similar Laminaria hyperborea by being darker in colour and having a shorter stipe that does not easily snap when bent.

Kelp is the number one herb for supplementing iodine. And being that it is a natural source of iodine it is considered to be safer and better for the body than chemical synthetics. Superstars like vitamin C, iron and calcium are always in the news and well-known for their health benefits, while iodine has been essentially ignored. But we need iodine for efficient thyroid and pituitary function. The thyroid, located in the area of the throat, is responsible for regulating metabolism and body temperature. We know that a strong metabolism is important for weight control, and so it is important for those seeking to maintain a healthy weight, or those hoping to lose a few pounds, to add kelp to the list of things that we know are beneficial to weight management: drinking lots of water, exercising on most days and incorporating a low-fat, low-calorie diet

Medicinal Uses – Kelp is an excellent source of iodine, which helps to helps to stimulate the thyroid gland and control metabolism. It's also very rich in nutrients derived from the sea. "Kelp granules are an especially rich source of potassium, iron, vitamin B-6, riboflavin, and dietary fiber. Kelp also contains a natural substance, glutamic acid, that enhances flavor and tenderizes. Phytochemicals in kelp have been shown to absorb and eliminate radioactive elements and heavy metal contaminants from our bodies"

Kelp granules are an excellent way to get all the nutritional benefits of sea veggies in a rather palatable manner. Sea vegetables offer the broadest ranges of minerals of any food, containing virtually all the minerals found in the ocean.
